Overview Upgrade your knowledge and skills to prepare for college, apprenticeship, and/or employment, whether or not you have a high school diploma. This flexible training is tailored to suit your educational and/or employment goals. You can attend these programs on a full or part-time basis to suit your busy schedule. Note: Academic Upgrading is tuition-free to residents of Ontario who are at least 19 years of age. Financial support for child care and transportation is available to qualified applicants. Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) provides upgrading in communications, mathematics, introductory computer applications, and workplace essential skills. This program will help to improve your employment prospects, and to prepare you for further training. Many students who successfully complete this program proceed directly into the ACE Program. Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) allows you to upgrade your academic skills and prepares you for further education. Studies may include communications, mathematics, biology, and chemistry. Successful completion of the ACE Program provides a Grade 12 equivalence that is recognized for admission to college post-secondary programs and apprenticeship training in Ontario. Overview Gain the skills and training needed to challenge the Certification of Qualification exam. Earn while you learn. This program is run in a day release format to allow the apprentice to continue to work in the trade while learning one day per week. This training is a stepping stone to several other trades. Level 1 now available in an online format Must be a signed apprentice with the Ontario College of Trades to be eligible to take this program. Each level is one day per week for 36 weeks for a total of 240 hours Note: Upon completion, successful students are eligible to challenge the Ontario Certificate of Qualification. Level 1 Online Hybrid Delivery Option - Overview Apprentices who prefer self-paced study may opt for this option to complete the Level 1 in-school training. The theory portion is completed online, facilitated by the professor, followed by an eight-day practical block in the Commerce Court motive power shop. The curriculum and course syllabus corresponds with the regular day-release program, but is offered fully online.
